青森県八戸市を拠点とする、小学生から社会人までの団員で構成される吹奏楽団「ぬかづか吹奏楽団」の第1回定期演奏会を記念する委嘱作品として作曲させていただいた
「ノーザン・コースト・バイブス」
が、3月28日(土)に八戸市立長者小学校 体育館にて行われる第1回定期演奏会にて初演されます！
指揮は、委嘱のきっかけを作ってくださった味村 純さん。
私の故郷である岩手県洋野町にほど近い八戸市の吹奏楽団からの委嘱ということもあって、二つ返事で快諾・作曲させていただいた今回の委嘱作品。北国でありながら太平洋に面した穏やかな気候の八戸と、そこに暮らす温和で真面目な人々の空気感を、80sシンセポップやエレクトロポップのイディオムを用いて表現した5分半ほどの作品です。

I had the honor of composing “Northern Coast Vibes” as a commissioned piece to commemorate the first regular concert of the NUKAZUKA Wind Orchestra, a group based in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture, consisting of members ranging from elementary school students to working adults.
The piece will receive its world premiere at their first regular concert on Saturday, March 28, at the gymnasium of Chōja Elementary School in Hachinohe.
The conductor will be Jun Mimura, who kindly made this commission possible.
Since the commission came from a wind orchestra in Hachinohe—close to my hometown of Hirono Town in Iwate Prefecture—I gladly accepted and composed the piece without hesitation. This approximately five-and-a-half-minute piece expresses the atmosphere of Hachinohe: a northern city facing the Pacific Ocean with a mild climate, and its warm, sincere people. It draws on the idioms of 1980s synth-pop and electro-pop.
