札幌のバー @bar_brass_susukino にて、昨年3月から陸上自衛隊北部方面音楽隊 @jgsdf_naband の隊長を務めておられる伊東 札記さんにお会いすることが出来ました！ お話を沢山伺う事がてきて有意義な時間でした。伊東さん、ありがとうございました！ さて、これから東京に戻ります。約3週間にわたるアメリカ＆北海道の旅、終焉です！ At the bar “Brass” in Sapporo, I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Satsuki Itoh, who has been serving as the Captain of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Northern Army Band since March of last year. It was a truly rewarding experience to hear so much from him. Thank you, Mr. Ito! And now, I’m heading back to Tokyo. My journey across America and Hokkaido, spanning roughly three weeks, has come to an end. #sapporo
皆様、旧年中は大変お世話になりありがとうございました！ 2025年は母校尚美での講師業やJR東日本東京吹奏楽団の常任指揮活動に加えて、主業である作曲活動を海外へと拡大するなど、たくさんチャレンジさせていただいた1年となりました。 2026年は海外展開も含めさらにパワーアップした活動を行っていく予定です！ （既に国内外の委嘱作品作曲も控えておりワクワクが止まりません！） 本年もどうぞ宜しくお願いいたします！ （写真はミッドウェストクリニックのブースに出展していたバンドレンブースにて妻と。回し者ではありません！笑） Dear all, thank you for your tremendous support throughout the past year! 2025 was a year in which I expanded my composing activities overseas and took on many new challenges. The day before we left Chicago, my wife and I had The day before we left Chicago, my wife and I had a free day, so we visited the Field Museum of Natural History and the Art Institute of Chicago. My wife stayed by my side throughout the Midwest Clinic and supported me as I struggled with English. I can’t thank her enough! Next year, I plan to attend the Midwest Clinic alone. I want to improve my English skills over the next year so I can approach the Midwest Clinic with greater confidence. シカゴ出発前日は一日フリーだったため、妻とフィールド自然史博物館及びシカゴ美術館へ行ってきました。 妻はミッドウェストクリニックの開催中ずっとそばにいてくれて、英語が不慣れな私を支えてくれました。本当に感謝しかありません…！ 来年は1人でミッドウェストクリニックに参加する予定です。この一年間でより英語力を高めてミッドウェストクリニックに望みたいと思います！ #chicago
On the third night of the Midwest Clinic, I enjoye On the third night of the Midwest Clinic, I enjoyed Chicago-style pizza with saxophonist Chika Inoue @chikasax_ , who I met at the Vandoren booth, composer Naoya Wada @comp_nw , and my wife. Living in the U.S., Ms. Inoue shared detailed insights into American music education, which made it a truly valuable experience. On the morning of Day 3 at the Midwest Clinic, I h On the morning of Day 3 at the Midwest Clinic, I had the honor of attending a breakfast meeting hosted by Randall Standridge Music, the publisher of my piece Thawing. At the breakfast, I met not only Randall Standridge himself, but also several composers who have released sheet music through the company. They were incredibly kind to me, especially as someone who is still getting used to speaking English, and I can’t thank them enough. I was able to meet my favorite composer, Johan A. I was able to meet my favorite composer, Johan A. De Meij, again after a year. I brought the score of his Symphony No. 2, The Big Apple, with me to the US, and he kindly signed it for me. Exactly 20 years ago, as a concert-band-obsessed m Exactly 20 years ago, as a concert-band-obsessed middle schooler, I was deeply moved by works published by the venerable American music publisher C.L. Barnhouse. I literally spent every last penny of my limited allowance buying new CDs and full scores, and my greatest joy was listening to the music while poring over those scores. I was particularly engrossed in the works of James Swearingen, Ed Huckeby, David Shaffer, Robert Sheldon and Steven Reineke. Looking back now, these composers shaped the very foundation of my sense of concert band sound. Eventually, I developed a strong interest in composition itself and began to dream of becoming a composer. Twenty years have passed since then. Last year, my concert band piece Thawing, which won the Midwest Clinic Composition Award, was published by Randall Standridge Music. Coincidentally, works by Ed Huckeby and Robert Sheldon—composers whose scores I once studied with such passion—are also published by the same publisher. To find myself in the position of a fellow composer publishing works with the same publisher is truly astonishing. I intend to draw strength from this experience and continue moving forward with dedication. 今からちょうど20年前、中学生で吹奏楽大好き小僧だった私は、アメリカの老舗楽譜出版社 C.L.バーンハウス社から出版されている作品に心を動かされていました。 限られたお小遣いを文字通り全額叩いてバーンハウス社の新譜CDやフルスコアを買い集め、フルスコアを眺めながら音楽を聴く時間が何よりの楽しみでした。 特に夢中で聴いていたのは、ジェイムズ・スウェアリンジェン氏を筆頭に、エド・ハックビー氏、デイヴィッド・シェイファー氏、ロバート・シェルドン氏、スティーヴン・ライニキー氏の作品です。 今思うと、私にとって吹奏楽という編成のサウンドの原点を形づくってくれた作曲家の方々ばかりです。 やがて私は作曲そのものに強い興味を抱くようになり、「作曲家になる」という夢を志すようになりました。 あれから20年という歳月が流れました。 昨年、ミッドウェスト・クリニック主催の作曲賞を受賞させていただいた作品「雪解け」は、ランダル・スタンドリッジ・ミュージックから出版されています。 そして偶然にも、かつて憧れ、夢中で楽譜を眺めていたロバート・シェルドン氏やエド・ハックビー氏の作品も、同出版社から出版されています。 事実上、同じ出版社から作品を出版する同僚作曲家という立場になり、 こうした巡り合わせに、非常に驚いております…！ この経験を励みに、これからも精進していきたいと思います。 #midwestclinic #edhuckeby #robertsheldon
On the second night of the Midwest Clinic, I had d On the second night of the Midwest Clinic, I had dinner with three wonderful people: Viskamol Chaiwanichsiri @khoe_ , a composer originally from Thailand who now lives in the US, Japanese composer Naoya Wada @comp_nw , and my wife. Mr. Chaiwaranisiri, who primarily composes for wind ensemble, shares many of my musical tastes. I never ran out of things to talk about and got so caught up in our conversation that I lost track of time.
