Snow continues to fall forever in the freezing cold.
Everything is closed off by the snow and cold.
When the snow begins to melt, the long-awaited spring arrives.
With the melting of the snow, everything that had been closed up by the snow begins to move.
The earth, rivers, fields, flowers, and life…
It gradually becomes full of life.
I was born and raised in the northern part of Japan, where beautiful winters are very familiar to me.
I have experienced the mystery of melting snow up close and personal, which inspired me to compose this piece.
It contains sentimental and introspective feelings as well as the beauty of nature.
I hope to convey the mystery of the melting snow through this piece.
This piece was composed in January 2024.
It won first prize in the “2024 Barbara Buehlman Prize for Composition Contest for Middle School Band” sponsored by the Midwest Clinic.
The work was premiered by the Kranz Junior High School Honors Band (conducted by Kelby Koch) at the 78th Midwest Clinic in December 2024.
